It would seem that the hibernation lasted for 3+ years, since that’s the time of my last post.
Meanwhile, the old house was sold, a new one was bought, and my girlfriend gave birth to our second child, a little boy.
If I thought that the time I had to tinker with my small bikes was limited before, I got wiser. However, everything is a phase, they say, and I’m sure I’ll have more time on my hands again down the road. The new house has a heated garage (build as a fully integrated part of the house), and that’s a big plus compared to the old shed. Now my bikes are safely stored, and I can quickly resume whatever project I might have paused, whenever I have time to spend.
I finally started working on the old Honda Melody Mini, which has been abandoned for years. See the last post here.
I tried most back then to get it running, but without any luck. The rubber gasket on the original carb was so dry that it cracked, so I replaced the whole carb with a new aftermarket model, as the rubber gasket couldn’t be sourced anywhere.
Last time I only bought a new piston, but now I’ve bought and installed a complete set; new piston, new rings, new cylinder, new gaskets etc. When I dismantled the old parts, I noticed a lot of oil in the combustion chamber. I’m simply hoping it’s due to low compression or excessive clearance between the piston and the cylinder.
All has now been installed, gear oil changed, new fuel added, wheels inflated, and we’re soon ready to test it. Daughter (soon to be 5) helped with both the dismantling of the old parts, and the draining of the old fuel.
Fingers crossed that it’ll fire right up – to be continued.
