Winter is coming, so it’s time for my bike to go into hibernation. One might also argue that this blog has been in hibernation for the better part of a year, for which I’m sorry. Being a father to a 14 months old girl doesn’t leave much room for hobbies like this, but I luckily […]

Carburetor replacement
Finally a bit of good weather, and a chance to test if the new head gasket fixed the leak. It worked as intended, and no more leaking, period. I also managed to source an original Keihin carburetor, so I could replace the China model. You might say that I’m a fanatic, but I do believe […]
New head gasket
Finally had the head gasket changed. Hopefully this will fix the previously mentioned oil leak. All that’s needed now is for the temperature to go up a few degrees, so I can take it out for a spin, and see if everything now runs smoothly.
New spark plug
The other day I wanted to start the bike, but nothing happened. There was fuel, compression was good, but I wasn’t even close to get it started. I checked the spark, and it did seem a bit weak. Removed the spark plug cap, and this is what I saw. It shouldn’t look like this, and […]
Obstacles on the road #2
Finally time for an update on the Honda Dax project. It’s like a never ending story for me, there seems to be no closure what so ever. Perhaps it’s a good thing, since closure would force me upon a new project, and I’m lacking a bit of space in the shed currently.I have however had […]
Tapered piston rings
So, still learning – and hopefully continuing to do so for a lifetime. I found out why there wasn’t any compression. The piston rings were simply tapered, meaning that I should have paid more attention when mounting them. See an example here of tapered piston rings and how to mount them. Apparently I had mounted […]
New piston
Thought I could buy a new pair of piston rings, but it turned out that this wasn’t quite doable. The only piston rings that I could aqquire looked like this: One being wider than the other, but the old piston had two identical sized piston rings: This forced me into buying a complete set with piston […]
My second Honda
I’ve just started working on my second Honda, a Honda Melody Mini that I bought a decade ago – give or take. Believe that bikes very similar to this one was introduced in other countries, under names as The Eve, Nifty 50 or Spree. I used it as my daily driver for a short period, […]
Obstacles on the road #1
Finally got the engine mounted and the bike up and running. Started easily, and sounded good, and the white smoke from before seemed to be gone, at least when it was idling. When it was running however, the story seemed to be another one. Then it would smoke a bit again, even though not as much […]
1 year later…
It has been a while since my last post, nearly 1 year. I promised to come back with an update, so here goes, and sorry for the wait. Kicked the engine over 50+ times before I managed to start it. Rode the bike for a rather short trip, but it was impossible to get it […]
